Leeds’ top spots for 1950s glad rags
With the Light’s very own 50’s extravaganza – the Summer Loving Supper Club – just around the corner, it’s time to get that poodle skirt and teddy boy jacket at the ready. To make things a little easier, and stop you from rushing round town, here’s the top places in the city to get your glad rags for the evening.
Memphis Belle, Leeds Kirkgate Market
Self-proclaimed specialists in vintage, Memphis Belle is perfect for women in search of polka dots, petticoats, and everything in between! Reasonably priced, it’s a nice easy option to get an authentic outfit for the night. Check out the shop’s website here:
For those wanting to jive on a budget, a good old visit to Primark can suffice in kitting you out for the evening. Ladies, go for a polka dot number or keep it simple and accessorise with a headband. For the boys, you can’t wrong with a plain white tee or a polo. If James Dean can rock it-so can you (probably). Add an edge to a simpler outfit with one of our hair tutorials, found here!
Blue Rinse – Call Lane
Although Blue Rinse is mostly dominated by 90s style vintage, you can also find the odd super-retro gem too. Perfect for any guys searching for a good old greaser polo.
Your local charity shop
What better way to stay authentic, as well as bagging a bargain, that with a visit to your local charity shop? It’s always worth a quick browse, who knows what 50s treasures you’ll unearth? You can find clusters of these shops across the city, but head to Vicar Lane to find a fair few.
If these local suggestions don’t wet your vintage appetite, there’s a plethora online. Just make sure you order them in time for the Summer Loving Supper on Friday 1st July.
See you there!
